Kapama Private Game Reserve takes Community Development to the next level.
Last year September saw Kapama Private Game take their Community development and community work to the next level.
The USA based Financial Services Provider, Academy Mortgage, as part of their incentive trip to Kapama Private Game Reserve for Top Achievers, wanted to add something extra to their incentive trip. Apart from enjoying a luxury Five-star experience and Big Five Safari adventure in South Africa, they were interested in giving something back to the community around the Reserve. They do this with all their trips with terrific results. All they needed to do was select an organisation or community-based project where they felt they could have the greatest impact.
About two years ago Kapama Private Game Reserve, partnered with an NGO called Eco Children. This non-profit organisation, which was initiated by the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, focuses on hands-on environmental education and whole school development. One of the schools that benefit from this partnership is Makwetse School in Acornhoek, about 30 km from Kapama. This partnership with Eco Children, together with Academy Mortgages community-incentive trip was a perfect collaboration to assist Makwetse School.
Over the course of 2 days, 180 Academy Mortgage employees, and over 100 Kapama staff, together with the team from Eco Children took on the mammoth task of adding 10 new Garden Keys to the Eco village, painting classrooms and refurbishing the infrastructure at the Makwetse School in Acorn Hoek. This initiative resulted in sizeable monetary injection into the school and ultimately the community. It was an incredible project that saw a transformation of the school in a very short time.
To date, Eco Children and Kapama have provided Makwetse School with:
- An Established and crop producing Eco Village Garden
- This has set an entry point for hands-on environmental education
- An established school library to stimulate the desire to read & learn
- A Refurbished school kitchen to improve & increase the reliability of feeding schemes
- 8 Refurbished classrooms including – Painted rooms – Refurbish desks – Painted and refurbished classroom shelves
The future looks bright and we are eager to see what other positive changes and differences we can make in our community together.
