A night with a clan

Kapama Ranger Blog

It is always rewarding to find a family of animals all together such as hyenas.

Driving at night, looking for something special to show your guests is not always easy. So as a ranger and a tracker, we are always on the lookout for that special thing. On this night, we drove around for about half an hour looking for that something.

I was just about to give up when my tracker, Give, said to me let’s try one more place before we go back. To my surprise and my guests’ too, we saw a family of hyenas by a termite mound. There were four adults and two pups. The adults sat there very quietly watching how the two younger ones made their way closer and closer to the vehicle.

It was amazing to see how curious and brave these young hyenas were. What a sighting, I was just as amazed.
