Kapama Private Game Reserve is situated in the Limpopo Province in the northeast of South Africa.

Occupying a vast area between the northern Drakensberg Mountains and the Greater Kruger National Park, it spans a vast area of 150 square kilometres of magnificent South African bushveld. It is ideally situated to receive fly-in guests of scheduled flights from the nearby Eastgate Airport also known as Hoedspruit Airport, conveniently located across the road from one of Kapama’s entrances to the reserve.

Kapama offers complimentary transfers in open game-viewing vehicles directly to any of the four luxury game lodges on the reserve – River Lodge, Buffalo Camp, Kapama Karula and Southern Camp.

Should a travel itinerary include arrival at Hendrik Van Eck Airport or Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, guests will need to arrange their private transfer to get to Kapama Private Game Reserve.

If you have decided to embark on a road trip to get to us, please make use of the directions below to locate us once you are in the area. See below for more detailed directions from Johannesburg.
If your chosen route takes you through Mashishing (formerly known as Lydenburg) on the R36 to Ohrigstad through the Strijdom Tunnel, pass through the town of Hoedspruit and then turn right onto the R40. Continue straight until the Kapama main gate appears on your left. Do not turn onto Argyle Road as this is a service-entry road.

Road Trip

If your chosen route takes you through the town of Acornhoek, approximately 1 kilometre before Klaserie, the R40 branches off to the right and is marked. Take the turn-off and continue straight on the R40 until you see the Kapama Main Gate on the right-hand side of the road. Here is a PIN DROP of the main gate.
Please note: The small gate on Guernsey Road and the gate on Argyle Road are service entry gates and are not to be used. Access will only be through the Kapama Game Reserve main gate on the R40.

Details

Take either the N12 or the N4 from Johannesburg to Emalahleni and Middelburg. Turn onto the R540 towards Emakhazeni, Emnotweni (also known as Dullstroom) and Mashishing. Emnotweni is set on the highveld and is an ideal place to stop and explore the region. The village is a good halfway or lunch stop on the way to Kapama Private Game Reserve. The village has a quaint atmosphere and offers various coffee shops, restaurants and pubs to have a meal (Tip: Pop into Harrie’s Pancakes for one of their famous pancakes). You might even have some time to throw a line and experience some of the renowned trout fishing that the area is known for.
From Mashishing, proceed on the R36 to Ohrigstad and through the Strijdom Tunnel to Hoedspruit.
This scenic drive through the province of Mpumalanga takes in magnificent mountain landscapes and panoramic views. As you drive up the mountain passes onto the high escarpment, expect sweeping vistas of the Lowveld below. At the Strijdom Tunnel, roadside stalls sell ethnic curios from the area.
From Hoedspruit, take the R40 to Klaserie and continue until you reach the Kapama Private Game Reserve entrance on the left.
