Impala Lamb Birth

Kapama Ranger Blog

On a late morning drive, my guests and I were really fortunate to witness an impala lamb being born. From the time that we noticed the impala ewe lying down, till the time she stood up was approximately 20 minutes. We first noticed the fore legs of the lamb showing under her tail, she then lay down and delivered the baby. Immediately afterwards she stood up and started eating the afterbirth off her lamb. My guests and I then decided to leave giving mom and new baby time to bond, before the lamb takes it first steps.
