We were on a game drive this morning and we found a pride of lethargic lions. There were two young females, probably sisters and one male, the brother. We sat with them for a few minutes and noticed that they started to get hungry and were now on the hunt, so we followed them to see if there was going to be any action. They didn’t go very far until they came across some giraffe, the three lions weren’t very experienced and in a result thereof they gave their own game away. The giraffe had noticed the lions in the area, to which the lions then lied down in the grass to disguise themselves so that they could slowly creep away. After viewing the unsuccessful lions for about anther 10 minutes, the excitement started. Unexpectedly, six warthogs unaware of the lion’s whereabouts came happily grazing into sight of the lions. The sleepy lions were surprised as to what was happening; the two females then chased the warthogs in opposite directions, the male didn’t even move with all the excitement going on. One of the warthogs saw the male lion lying there and went running straight at the male. Unfortunately for the male lion’s delayed reactions and inexperience, the odds were in the favor of the warthogs for the day. So now I understand why they say, “Expected the unexpected!”
