Two Lion cubs about 6 months old crossed the road in the direction from which the noise had come. We immediately made our way there. What success for the Lions.

The youngest of the herd, about 3,5 months old, was excited to get in on the fun. Not having too much control of the thousands of muscles in the trunk she just went head first into the mud and tried not to get stuck in the deeper pools.

The excitement was building as we edged ourselves even nearer. Expectations were through the roof. We finally got to the area where the original sound had come from. As we approached we saw a female Impala running away. But that was not all that we saw.

We moved in a little closer for my guest to work his skill with his camera. To our surprise, not only did we find one, but two tiny wildebeest calves staying so close to their mothers that they were almost invisible.

This was truly an amazing sighting to come across because they are classified as endangered species in South Africa. The biggest danger these magnificent birds face …

As this year draws to a close it’s hard to believe that the sun will be setting on another year. It seems like just yesterday we were welcoming in 2017!
It’s a good time to reflect on the highs and lows to see what we can take from our experiences to make the next year even better.
