Wellness hand scrub and Berry Smoothie

May 21, 20200 comments

Each Wednesday over the next few weeks, Kapama Wellness Centre & Spa Manager Liezel Jamneck will take you on a Kapama Wellness journey as she shares her tips and wellness recipes with us.

Today Liezl has a wonderful homemade hand scrub as well as a delicious blueberry smoothie recipe that she will demonstrate.

We hope you enjoy them.

Frequent washing of our hands can be very drying on the skin. Our hands are the first area to display aging. Exfoliating your hands two to three times a week will increase the production of collagen and delay the appearance of wrinkles.  Here is a very easy scrap that you can make at home. You will need:

  •  half a cup of brown sugar
  •  half a cup of olive oil
  • 10 drops of lavender essential oil

Mix all together

Then for the application:

Massage the scrub gently onto your hands and let it soak into your skin for just over 2 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

At Kapama Wellness Spas we use the sugar and oil scrub from BABOR followed by the repair hand cream.  For more information about our spas – click here

Liezl Jamneck shares one of her favourite blueberry and chai recipes. This smoothie has antioxidant properties to protect us from aging.

 You will need:

  • 1 cup of frozen blueberries
  • 1 cup plain yoghurt
  • 2 bananas
  • 2 teaspoons of chai seeds

Blend them all together

Garnish with a few extra blueberries and enjoy as a wonderful snack of breakfast.

Signs of a South African Bushveld Summer

This is an exciting time of the year for us as the bush comes alive. Kapama Private Game Reserve is certainly a year-round destination, with winter offering terrific sightings of both animals and birds. However, summer brings in new and exciting aspects to a Safari.

The Moving Branch

I had been driving on a straight road when in the distance I spotted what looked like a thick branch lying in the middle of the road. I looked around, scanning the bush and terrain for other animals that would now be moving to find water. I looked back onto the road and this “branch” had somehow moved to the other side of the road.

Leopard Caught Feasting

Besides the Lion, the Leopard is the next biggest African cat, with an average mass of 60 to 70kg. The Leopard’s hunting technique is to either ambush or stalk its prey, in either instance it tries to get as close as possible to its target. It then makes a brief and explosive charge up to 60km/h, pouncing on the prey with a bite to the neck.

The Little Five and Smaller animals in Nature

I got so excited and immediately nodded in agreement. I knew I had a kindred spirit on the game vehicle, and that our time together would be something special.
